58 In 1850, he was living with his son, David and family in Orange Township, Hancock County, Ohio.
59 Although David was not in Columbiana County in 1850 (he sold his land to a Robert Crow in 1849),
60 we do find in Elkrun Township in 1850 two of our Jonathan W. Redick's sons, Carson and Samuel Redick.

John2 Hoge Redick;
John1 Redick);
born circa 1803 in Pennsylvania; probably died between the 1860 and 1870 federal censuses; married Elizabeth Campbell; born circa 1826 in Kentucky. Census information indicates Desaix apparently married late in life. By 1870, Elizabeth had married Jesse Fitzgerald, born circa 1836 in Tennessee. Besides Elizabeth and Jesse Fitzgerald's children (Ella, Elizabeth and Thomas Fitzgerald), also in the family in 1870 were Desaix and Elizabeth Redick's children: Willard, John and Mary (Josephine) Redick.

born 1807 in Pennsylvania; died June 1884 in Illinois; married JOHN BARTHOLOMEW; born December 1806 in Ohio; died 1878 or 1879 in Iowa. John, Harriet and children lived in Fulton County, Illinois, where John was a farmer.
70
The following is based on census records, and not confirmed by other documents: Apparently Harriet and John divorced in the 1860s. In 1870 and 1880, Harriet, as head of household, was still in Farmers Township;
71 whereas John was head of household in Hancock County, Illinois in 1870
72 (deceased by 1879). Keeping house for John in 1870 was Mary E. [?]; born September 1838 in Iowa. Census reports indicate Mary E. had previously married [?] Wright, by whom she had at least three children (George, Laura and Emma Wright). John and Mary had six children (Mississippi, Aaron, Charles, Sarah B., Marie and Nathan Bartholomew), born between 1868 and 1879. (In 1880, Mary E. and children were in Lucas County, Iowa; by 1900, Mary E. and children Charles, Marie and Nathan Bartholomew had moved to San Diego.)

36. REDICK3 MCKEE (
Sarah2 Redick;
John1 Redick);
born 7 December 1800 in McKeesport, Pennsylvania; died 13 September 1886 in Berkeley Springs, Morgan County, West Virginia; married Eliza Ritchie; born 25 June 1802 in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania; died 22 April 1871 in Washington, District of Columbia. In 1850, Redick and Eliza and family lived in Wheeling, Ohio County, Virginia (now West Virginia); where Redick was listed as an Indian Agent. Also living with the family in 1850 was Jane Ritchie, born circa 1808 in Pennsylvania.
148 She was probably a sister of Redick's wife Elizabeth. In 1870, Redick was living by himself in Washington, District of Columbia, where he was listed as a banker.
149
Redick McKee led an active life. In 1850, President Millard Fillmore appointed Redick McKee and two other commissioners to the Office of Indian Affairs. Their task was to negotiate treaties with Indian tribes of California. Redick McKee's son John recorded the official deliberations of the expedition. By the end of 1851, Redick McKee had successfully negotiated 18 treaties with the indigenous people of California. Regrettably, in July 1852, the United States Senate refused to ratify any of the agreements. There are numerous accounts of Redick McKee's mission. One of the best known is Little White Father by Ray Raphael (Humboldt County Historical Society, 1993), who describes his study of Redick McKee as a "study of a man, unique in his day, well-meaning in his mission, but ignorant and naive about the people he proposed to "save," as well as about his fellow countrymen and the government he represented." There is a nice photograph of Redick McKee, taken late in life, on the cover of Raphael's book.
Redick McKee also got himself involved in Mormon history and debate by rooming for a time with Reverend Solomon Spaulding, known for his famous "Manuscript Found," and hence Spaulding's theory about the authorship of "The Book of Mormon." (Redick McKee was a Presbyterian).
